Charlton Cup 2011
Oct 4, 2011, 9:58 pm

The annual Charlton Cup final for our U10 footballers took place recently in dry but breezy conditions in Gilmartin Park. The blues captained by Simon Walsh narrowly defeated the bibs lead by Andrew Mc Donnell on a score line of 13 pts to 11pts.

The game was played in four quarters and the busy Dylan Byrne got the scoring underway for the winners, a late score by Simon saw the blues edge ahead 3pts to 2pts after the first quarter. The blues totally dominated the second period and their backline of Paul Diamond, Michelle Guinnelly, Anna McDonnell and Ellie Mc Nicholas and, particularly, Keelan O’ Reilly took control to set up scores for their forwards where Sean Cunningham and Thomas Gillespie chalked up brilliant points. Cian O’ Reilly also excelled in this quarter at midfield and his score gave the blues a half time score of 9pts to 2pts.

If the second quarter belonged to the blues, the bibs owned the third, Andrew and the industrious Aiden Cosgrove took complete control at midfield, and they were ably assisted in defence by Katie McNicholas, Ciara Carroll, Erin Russell and Daniel Walsh. Ciaran O Brien also defended heroically and Mikey Forkan’s powerful runs set up waves of attacks which forwards Conor Canney , Lisa Ruane, Ian Burke duly converted. Jack Prendergast and his trusty left peg also hit a couple of majors. However, the blues finished strongly and when Emily Moore set up Paul Diamond for his second score, they lead by 11pts to 9pts.

With limbs beginning to tire in the fourth quarter, the bibs could not breakdown the determined blues side and two late scores on the break from the efficient Dylan Byrne and captain Walsh sealed victory for the blues. Orla Quinn and James Ivers could not make it on the day but excelled throughout the year.

Many thanks to the Charlton family and Danny Charlton presented the famous cup to Simon and medals to both teams.

Teams:

The Blues: Simon Walsh, James Ivers, Paul Diamond, Keelan O’ Reilly, Ellie McNicholas, Michelle Guinnelly, Cian O’ Reilly, Dylan Byrne, Sean Cunningham, Thomas Gillespie, Orla Quinn, Emily Moore, Anna Mc Donnell.

The Bibs: Andrew Mc Donnell, Daniel Walsh, Ciaran O’ Brien, Mikey Forkan, Ciara Carroll, Katie McNicholas, Aiden Cosgrove, Conor Canney, Jack Prendergast, Lisa Ruane, Ian Burke, Erin Russell.

Seamus Boyle Tournament 2011
Oct 4, 2011, 9:56 pm

The annual Seamus Boyle GAA tournament took place recently when Kiltimagh’s U12 boys footballers travelled north to picturesque Dungloe. Missing a number of regulars the team acquitted themselves very well and were narrowly beaten by the hosts 1-5 to 0-6 in the semi final. They again lost out to local rivals Aghamore in the playoff 1-6 to 0-8 for 3rd/4th place. The competition, in its fourth year, was won for the first time by Seamus’ home club and hosts, Dungloe, when they defeated Gweedore in an entertaining final. Despite the lads’ disappointment on the field, an enjoyable day was had by all. We would like to say a special word of thanks to Dungloe for their hospitality and welcome refreshments after the games. A big thank you also to Sean Langan, once again, who sponsored the McDonald’s for the team on the way home.

Kiltimagh lose to Kiltane in Division 1B
Oct 2, 2011, 5:58 pm

Kiltimagh 4-9 Kiltane 3-13: Kiltimagh almost got over a disasterous start when they were 3-3 down after 10 minutes to lose out buy just a point. The loss just about eliminates Kiltimagh's chances of promotion. A win over Davitts in the last round would still leave the Kilties depending on other results.

Kiltimagh's top of the table clash with Kiltane has been put back a day and will be played in Kiltimagh at 1pm on Sunday 2nd October 2011. With 2 points separating the sides, a win for Kiltane will bring them joint top with Kiltimagh and keep up their challange for promotion while probably fatally damaging Kiltimagh's.
